Deployment in marlborough sounds
Between March and June 2025, AMES NZ conducted a pilot deployment of our wave energy converter in the Marlborough Sounds. We deployed our 50W-rated device on a salmon farm operated by New Zealand King Salmon over a period of 3 months. The objective was to validate the mechanical performance of the WEC and to compare its power output against that of conventional solar panels under real‑world aquafarming conditions. The WEC was equipped with a battery, a telemetry module, and sensors for measuring wave heights, temperature and oxygen level.
The results of our pilot were encouraging, with strong performance in waves above 0.3m in height. What we learned from this test was directly used in the development of our data buoy technology.
